Four Lions 3 - Killer Whales 2

by S.Vikie

Phew! What a game it turned out to be. Just one flute goal and one penalty for the opponents and they are elated. They kept pouring themselves upon us but our great wall comprising of Nic, Peh, Azi, Shan and Man was simply stout and confident. They gave the opponents no leeway for their physique.

The opponents were thinking of sharing the points with the lions but hey do they know that they are playing with one of the tops teams in the league? Lions you did Bryan proud by bagging 3 points for him for his debut as an incisive manager. Hari watch your boot. Ha Ha Ha..

When the opponents got the flute goal lead they were rather expecting for more coming on their way. The run down by Haminder and a pass to Afzal sealed the equalizer with a sweet kiss. But wait. Thats not all for the lions. They kept adding pressure by the school of thoughts of Zul and Haminder managed to capitalized on the defenders helplessness. He fired the ball behind the net to make the score in favour of the lions.

The lions then went for their break. Lions were cool and composed during the break. Some encouragement from the bench added a pat on their back. Bala came on for everlasting Zul. The team assembled for more goals. Much fury in their belly. Especially the number 7 who came like the WWE wrestler H3 on Vikie. Bala fired home a cross to seal a victory for the lions. Oh what a goal it was. Hari you must have been there. Bala would have proved all his critics wrong with that fireball.

Well like what I said earlier, the opponents were strong in their hearts and they stage played a penalty for themselves. Poor Azi had to be the man again. The referee made a blunder here. He told the kicker to kick without a whistle and Eugene was caught off guard. Well although the referee admitted his mistake later, he couldnt change the decision.

Well he was a gentle man to a certain fact. Subsequently he gave a free kick for an obvious penalty. Good call earlier Eugene. And oh my god, the man for it, Azi again. A timely header by Hamider from the wall gave a breakthrough and a pulsating attack for the lions.

The lions were not gonna give this victory away and when the final whistle came. After relentless efforts at goal, the reds surrendered themselves to the lions. It reminded me of the day the Japanese surrendered themselves to the British. At last the lions have learnt to be strong in threat mind and heart. All the opponents could say is long live the Lions. Despite our injuries on Vikie and Nic we are manly enough to give them three cheers. Hip Hip Hurray. Final score 3-2

A note to the manager:

Kindly make sure that we use a size 5 ball in our game hence on.

Four Lions 7 - Changi FC 2

Today will be remembered in history as the day that the Japanese surrendered!!  Hoist up proudly the Four Lions flag.  Majulah Four Lions.

Full Report by S.Vikie

Oh what a feat it was. What a strike it was. What a game we saw. What a game we played. You can tell anything about his game and nobody could say no. Everything was in tune for the lions. Right from the defenders till the newcomer Haminder Singh. Afzal and Edmund would have to take a hindsight on their positioning ever since this mysterio joined the lions. Although he suits more of the physique of the giraffe, he can still roar like the lions. Mind u. He shut the opponents play with the opening goal and 3 individual goals; not calculating all those that he missed.

Dickson had a wonderful game though. He kept the hopes alive for the lions with his cool equaliser before the break.

Although the opponents came through, they never thought that the unleashed lions would cause terminal harm to them. Lions came from an equilizer to a 5 goal thriller. The Japs had to bestowed the lions on our main land.

The defense was playing above par. Bryan not only marshalled the defense well but he also played to the rhythm of the lions. Newcomer James gelled well in the game and injected some worthwile crosses.

Midfielders, marshalled by powerhorse Gerald and spearheaded by Vikie proved too vital for the Japs to subdue. Much credit has to be given to the wingers Zul and Lan. Lan took a debut to this striking position and managed to cause trauma to the defenders. Needless to comment on the strikers, Dickson and Haminder. They were if not superhub, then excellent.

If the game was this good then there is something more in store for the lions. We had a glimpse of the top team BNP Paribas. It was not as good as it looked like. The lions can maul them in one bite.

Come one lions, we have done our manager proud. Keep up with the rhythmn and keep the goals flowing through. Remember the leaguue is not over. The probability of being the champions is still there.

So lets take on the whales this Sunday with pride and rhythmn.Lets show then what the lions can do. Go Lions Go.

Four Lions 2 - K.Knights 3

by S. Vikie

If you were not in the pitch today and you are reading this, just remember that the four lions missed you dearly today.

The lions not only miss the fatal bite but their thirst for more goals was floating in the air. If ever you were to appraise the lions, then all the credit should go to the defenders. Bryan, Nic, Peh, Azi and Man did a fantastic job to hold the opponents to the brim.Forget about Rooney's 2 goal. His second half performance eat it all up.

A breathless penalty save by our dominating keeper still could not patch the wound for the lions. What more you want lions?? Forgive me if you do not know the score. I am too devastated to flash it. Three dogs and two bones brothers.

When we prolwed into the pitch in the second half, little did we know that we were already at the knights mercy. Hari could that be the killer we saw and discussed??

The knights took the lions by their heir and spun them all round the pitch. The lions were not only breartheless but succumbing to the knights artistry. Balls being cleard, bypassing the midfielders was the greatest mistake the lions ever did. Poor Lions.

The team beat us on 2 aspects; quantity and mindset.

It was the lions empty and quiet den that led us to give our 3 points to the knights. Maybe some one could suggest on how we can improve on this. It has been the second time this season.

Our mindset was up and away. Just keeping our fingers crossed to hear the final whistle. We were practically defending every second. The knights wince every meat every flesh out of the lions. The fighting spirit wasn't in the mind and the hearts of the lions.

I still remeber when the knights substitued at least 7 of their players while the lions had to mercifully count with only one and a half substitue. Apologises Hari.

It's time to pull your socks lions. A shocking defeat is just a medicine for upcoming victories. Lets take the medicine now and recover the soonest. Buck up and lets lift the title in harmony. Lets vow to make do.

More to come Lions!!!

Four Lions 6 - Hibs A 0

by S.Vikie

At last, the Lions tasted blood with victory. Little did the players from Hipps knew that there would be slaughtered disparingly by the lions on Sunday evening. I don't remember of seeing or listening of any fairy tale story where lions ate the hippo. Well Lions you have created history.

The first half was soar with only one goal in the lions den. Vikie managed to dynamite the defence with his splitting pass to Shan where the latter slotted the ball calmly. Efforts came pouring in from the lions but the ball only managed to ricochet off the bar, much to the relieve of the hippos.

The den during the break was a rechargeable base for the lions. When the lions prowled into the pitch in the second half, little did the hippo's suspect that the carnivore was gonna swipe the herbivore by its feet and swing it round the globe.

An artistic pass by Dickson to Afzal in the first minute of the second half, left the defence dismayed and Afzal to affirm three ponits for the lions. That was not enough for the lions. Once they tasted blood they were hungry for more. Shan once again created a cushion for the lions. Dickson and Raj followed behind. By this time, the Hippos surrendered to the lions.

Briane's witty shot got the hippy defender to slot the ball into his own net. Oh what a broad figure he was.

Well not only did the midfielders and the strikers played to their ability. The defenders marshalled by Bryan and discharged by Nic, Afis and Man was splendid. How else should i convince you with a null score line against us?

Well Lions, walk tall with your tails pointing skywards. The rhythmn has set in for the lions. The king of the jungle has regained its reputation and has promised for more. Keep it up lions.

Four Lions 6 - JJ Travel 4

by S.Vikie

Roar Lions Roar. At last we have rekindle the flame that seemed to be diminishing with the performance in the last two games. We not only bounced back with a victory but also proved that we could still score despite the absence of our hitman Afdzal.

Although the opponents open the goal scoring chart with a flute goal, we should thank them for the return own goal that they slotted in for us. Dickson and Rooney;save your breathe.

The defence seemed to be complacement in the first few minutes of the game that paved way for the openents to go ahead once again.

But the lions did not let go of their quest for a victory. They answered back and indeed went ahead with a chirpy header by Vikie. This header was with the splendid set piece which i think hari would have alreted the side liners.

This was the start of all doom for the opponents. More goals came raining into the opponents net. Thanks to Mazelan sweet left footer. Before the man in the black, oops i think he was dictator of the game, blew the for the break the score was already 5-2 in the lions favour.

The lions had a good dressing during the break and an almost 'new' team turned up for the 2nd half. the fight was endeavouring and Eugene did some breathe taking saves to keep the lions in the game.

At last the lions finished off the game with a splendid dribble from Rooney and a finisher from Dickson. Final score, Four lions 6 JJ 4.

Four Lions 2 - Referee 3 (oops! I mean Sun Ric)

by S. Vikie

Hey 4 Lions. Look at yourself in the mirror and conceal the truth to me. Dun u guys resemble a cat. What happened 4 Lions? Anyone who witnessed us play would term us as 4 cats. Yes Lions we dun even deserve being the cub.

We lose in the battle of Mind over Matter. We let our mind take charge of ourselves and we blundered away every ball; hoping that we would be able to get back at the opponents.

Just compare the string of passes; array of tactics displayed and foremost the brand of our play. We deserve three points. Three solid points to send the rest of the teams down the table; 3 solid points to sit comfortably to the top of the table. Leave aside the theory that all great teams lost last weekend.

Captain Marvel was missing in the team. Players were taking their toll on the opponents. Opponents capitalizing on the fact that we were distressed with them. Every turn, every corner, we were lost. There was only one goal in the mind of the every player. TO GET BACK AT THE OPPONENTS. To add salt to the wound we even took the law into our own hands and started querying the man in the black of his decisions.

Lions please take this has a painful lesson not to be displayed ever again. We have not just lost 3 points but also our pride in the pitch. Remember in the wildlife, a desperate lions is one that is just waiting to be killed.

The only player who deserves applaud is our keeper Eugene and our star appearance Hari. They played to their cool. They were petite and composed.

There is one thing our defenders were lacking. They kept clearing the ball aimlessly; leaving our midfielders and the strikers at the opponents mercy. They never played like this before. Nevertheless, we should still convey applause to Bryan for his brilliance in marshalling the backline.

They were one up but we soon equalize with our hitman, Afzal. But the lions were hungry for more goals and then came the second goal. Vikie managed to tickle the balls of the opponent by padding the ball into the net. I guess this must have really got into the opponents head. A goal they never thought was coming. We managed to still trouble the opponents defense with splitting passes. Just when we were in our top form, the man in black blew the whistle for the break.

The tremor for the 4 lions started in the 2nd half. We seemed to be playing for something more than just plain football. Hungry for blood? The referee mimic the decisions of the opponents and started to mess the game. An offside equalizer and a tit for tat penalty. Well as the saying goes God is Great and the penalty was saved by our hero for the day, Eugene.

The referee was keeping his revenge against our henchmen Aziz. It looked like whenever Aziz went for a ball, be it that he is in the losing end, there is a obvious free kick for the opponents. We knew the referee has more under his sleeve for Aziz. The referee not knowingly by his blatant decision sparked more friction in the lions camp. Eventually the referee instituted the marching orders for Aziz.

Ironically, with 10 men, we played better soccer. The players surrendered to the fight and started playing soccer. We managed to compose ourselves to the style of samba soccer and were on the verge of getting and equalizer when the referee blew the final whistle. Not surprising, the lions cursed the man in the black and off they went packing their bags.

So please Lions, learn a lesson over here. We are in the losing end when we argue with the referee. Please adopt this mentality; Play first complain later. Remember the man in the black is the most powerful person in the pitch. They would know how to payback if they were to make a mistake. But being humans, they too have feelings and they would not hesitate to turn the whole game to their own will.

If we had won and made a complain, that would have been a win-win situation. But now, we have lost everything. Tell Whites to look out for us in the second leg. The lions swears to come back with a fatal bite.

Four Lions 1 - Spyders 1

I won't be too far off if  I say that the LIONS were lucky to escape with this draw.  And they have their keeper Eugene to thank for it.  He made a number of excellent saves to prevent the Spyders from running riot and avenging their 5-2 first round defeat.

What happened LIONS?  An off day perhaps?  Maybe we did not have enough subs on the bench?  Afdzal was completely market out of the game.  Our opponents now know what a deadly threat he is and he is being checked all the way.  Time for our other strikers to play off him.  Dickson, Yusri and Francis should take this opportunity to build on your goals scored tally.   Whatever the reason we cannot afford to play this way anymore.  Rafiz played a fantastic game as a left back.  What with his overlapping runs and never say die attitude. Our midfield was not as smooth as normal.  Long balls sometimes find the target but always saps up energy.  Play the ball to feet, among yourselves in the midfield and release nearest free man.  Dictate the pace of the game.  Think Pasir Ris park!

The top of the league table is looking very congested.  The top 6 teams are just seperated by a couple of points.  And it is getting very interesting.  Every match is crucial to win the league championship.  Every point counts.  So Lions, get motivated for a win next match.

COME ON FOUR LIONS!!  ROAR!!

Four Lions 5 - AllStar 1

Bala finally remembered to bring along his 'confidence' with him for this match.  His performance today was befitting the skills that he seem to only display on Thursday practice matches.  He capped off an above average performance by scoring a goal.  Here is to Bala keeping up this good form!  Edmund (Bala's soul mate) took this opportunity to score his first hatrick.  No doubt a double celebration for this loving pair!

The game was tight for the first 20 mins.  AllStar seem to have injected a few new players since their 9-2 defeat to the Lions back in February.  But that was not enough stop the Lions from carving out this impressive victory.  Afdzal scored the other goal.

Off the field Mazelan, seem to be working with Vicki, to recruit new players.  The rest of the Lions would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the pairs after hours agenda!

Keep it up Lions.

Four Lions 5 - Queensland 1

For the first 45 minutes fans watching this game might be forgiven if they thought they were watching 2 school teams playing.  Then standard of play was pathetic.  Given that the Four Lions were one of the teams, made it even worse.  A strong reliable team like the Four Lions displaying lethargic performance...there is no excuse for that.  The Lions just fell in to a snooze mode!!

Saving the absolute embarrassment was maybe the 2-1scoreline at the first half.  At least we had the lead, phew!

2nd half was much better.  The Lions were awoken from the slumber (probably by the half time team talk!!) and showed the rowdies of Queensland what football is all about, scoring 3 more times.

By this time the Queensland players had resoted to playing 'footbrawl' and were not interested in playing or scoring.  The Lions maintained composure and played out the game to another victory.

Socrers:  Afdzal-1, Yusri-2, Jason -1, Edmund-1

Four Lions 4 - Holland II 2

by Vicky

Goodness Gracious me. Say this ten times if you were one of the lions who were out sweating on the pitch on the 27 July 2003. As for the rest of the byliners, you have said this enough.

Ya Four Lions, the last ten minutes of your play kept us pulsating. Balls sailing into our own half; crosses coming in; defenders relaxing and allowing the flank to bust in; keeper giving more confidence to the opposing strikers. Defenders giving more confidence to the opposing midfielders; midfielders throwing in their pack of gambling cards. One can never explain the difference in both worlds based on your performance. Lets say a prayer that four lions will never have to encounter such a beast ever in the season again. Ah but thats not all!!

The byliners were enjoying every bit of soccer depicted by the majestic lions in the first 80 minutes of the game. Clean passes, great skills, diagonal play; defence splitting passes; you dream of it four lions fulfil it. Ya that was the standard of play.

When the lions cat walked into the pitch they were clearly aware that the opponents were in high spirits. Little did they let that factor bother them and they immediately sprung into relentless efforts. Afzal the henchman put the lions ahead with a slimmer header. Much of the foot work displayed by Briane, Afzal and Ysuri left the byliners eyes wobbling and mouth-open.

As the first goal went in, then came the raining break through and the horrendous runs from the four lions. The midfielders gave the opponents no space and a splitting migrane. Long live the lions. The second goal was another clear art of professional soccer; a string of passes got the defenders to slot the ball into their own net.

The second half started with a sealed victory for the lions Although we were already 4 goals ahead, we did not slacken. The give away goal and the penalty that looked more like a revenge by the refree gave the opponents 2 consolation goals.

At last, the lions beat the top team, just like the way they baffled BARBARIANS.

Four Lions 5 - SIA(SPYDERS) 2
Four Lions once again displayed their powers with this relatively easy win over SIA.  The score does not really reflect the amount of clear chance the Lions had, which went abegging.  But nevertheless, the Lions performed admirably despite missing three first choice defenders in Aziz, Nick and Vicky.  Team captain Gerald lead by example.  Despite loosing his contact lens, he was determined to play a part for his beloved Lions.  A quick replacement of the lens on the sidelines and in to the play he went.  The highlight was surely his run from the centre of the field tracking a SIA's striker.  Gerald matched the strikers speed all the way and managed to poke the ball away from an other wise easy tap in goal, for a corner.  Trully a heart warming sight from a lead by example captain.  Bravo Gerald.  To cap of his great performance he scored his first goal of the league.  Here is for many more goals to come.  the other goals were scored by Afdzal 2, Francis 1 and Mazlan 1.

Four Lions 6 - Tomo 1
Four Lions came out of the blocks with a vengence.  Obiviously feeling frustrated of losing their grip on last weeks game, Four Lions scored 4 goals in the first 10 minutes to seal the game.  From then on it was the Lions passing the ball around to the imaginary crowd chanting 'ole' to their every pass.

The match's highlight was Aziz'z goal ala Roberto Carlos.  Infact, the entire move ending up with the ball in the net, had 'class' written over it.  It had at least 4 team members laying the ball of each other on the left of the pitch, before Aziz let loose a thunder of a shot from an acute angle, which the keeper had no time to react.  A real team goal!

Oh ya!  The Lions' manager had his debut, playing about 15 minutes and enjoying every body achinh minute of it!
Keep it up guys.

Four Lions 3 - Barbarians 3
Lucky Barbarians!  Last years champs almost suffered another defeat to the Four Lions.  Alss, they came back from the brinck of a humbling defeat by equalising with mere 10 minutes to full time.

Four Lions were superb.  Granted that the first 15 minutes belonged to the Barbarians, but once Edmund open scoring, there was no stopping the Lions.  The Lions defence stood well to the arial bombardment of the tall ang-mohs.  Infact Nick ( in my opinion " Man of the Match") managed to match them stride for stride.

Dickson struck a superb goal worthy of a "goal of the season"award in any league, making the score 2-0 at half time.

The Barbarians struck a goal in the early part of the second half, making it 2-1.  The fans knew thay were in for an explosive 2nd half.  And true enough, they were treated to a wonderful game of soccer.  Full of passion, determination and committment by both team.

Four Lions took a 2 goal advantage again when Edmund scored his 2nd of the matchafter being put through by Dickson.  The Barbarians managed to claw back to 3-2 then 3-3, before enduring an onslaught by the Lions during the last 10 minutes.

The deciding goal did not come and the game finished in a draw.

Four Lions 2 - Real Madrid 0

The score should have read 5 or 6 to zero in favour of the Lions.  The fair amout of chances that came the Lions way did not materialise to goals.  Overall it was a very subdued game by our boys, but on this day that was enough to bring down the Beckhamless Madrid.
Yet another clean sheet.  Yipee!!

Four Lions steamroll pass JASON (recorded as 3-0, walkover win)
The score was 9 - 0, but it could have been more.  Four Lions were superb.  Stringing passes together (like at the training ground!) and it was a sight to behold.

Our main man Afdzal scored 5, before he had to be carried off the field after a  bad knock.  Edmund was fantastic as an attacking midfield.  The defence yet again (two games in a row!!) was superb and maintained a clean sheet.  (Coincidently, Mazlan was not around this time either)

Overall, a well dserved victory.  Keep it up.
Four Lions takes revenge.
Four Lions troped into the field for the match against 2Sirs, donning their smart new kit.  They were all pumped up to take revenge for 3-2 defeat in the first round.

And what a game in turned out to be.  Both team were equally matched.  2Sirs (current table toppers) had the upperhand in the first half, missing a penalty and another shot hitting the post.
Four Lions came back strongly in the 2nd half.  How apt that the sponsor of the team's new Jersey, Dickson, was to score the one and only goal of the game.
All the player played well, especially the back four.  They were superb.  Vikie showed no signs of just being back from him honeymoon!!
Oh! By the way the score 1-0.  if you didi not notice, it's Four Lions first clean slate.  Keep it up Four Lions.
And to our die hard fan, Happy Birthday!!  This win is for you.

Dickson sponsors new Four Lions kit.
One of the pioneer's of Four Lions, Dickson, has sponsored a new kit for the Four Lions.  He said "I want the entire team to wear a set of uniformed jersey.  It is important as it builds  team spirit and a sense of belonging.  Currently our players borrow each other's jersey or buy different styles of jersey, which is not so professional."

The kit consisting jersey, shorts, socks, number, team name and sponsor name will be unveiled real soon.  So look forward for it.  All that an be said about the jersey right now is that it is 'GARANG'

Thank you Dickson.

Vikie wedding fever on.
Vikie's wedding is fast approaching.  Four Lions have been talking about it all week and have even posponed their matches in anticipation of a grand time.  So guys be there in full swing and lets add some spice to the celebrations.

Four Lions 9 - Allstar 2

By S.VIKIE
I think either the webmaster got dehydrated with words or he is dumbfounded with our heroic performances. remember he got the offer from Barbarians???? I dun think his heart is any longer with the four lions!!! Bro Gerald please counsel him.

Ya lions, this time we trashed our opponents in style. Indeed, we had a sumptuous meal. The lions used their incisor to tear apart the prey in just a few minutes into the first half. the prey had no oppourtunity to even say its last prayer before it kicked the bucket.

we attacked right from the starting whislte. we displyed an astute performance which other teams would be shivering to witness. Yusri, Gerald, Lan, Briane and Bala were drooling the passes into the oppopnents 6 yard box evey now and then causing much problem for the opponents. Afzal was always there to meet the passes and slot the ball to where it counts.

Peh, Aziz and Shan read the game well enough to keep the spirit of the team running high. They made well intercepted crosses and tailored passes. The midfeild, the engine room of the team never slacked in any manner and kept the bridge between the defenders and the strickers intact.

When i saw Briane and Afzal combining and reading each other's game so well,i felt the feeling of Malaysia Cup; the click between Abbas and Alistar.

Well lions, this has to go on. The desire to win should never diminishes in any game. The responsibility to work hard on the pitch should never go dry.

The only setback in the performance would be that we failed to reach the double figure goal rally. A ten goal margin would be very much appreciated.

Well then, a greedy dog gets no bone. OK pack all your boots and wash them dry. keep yrself psycologically prepared for the next game.

Remember..... Winning is the root of our team. We play to win. More to see Lions. Roar yr way through.

This match showed what the Lions are capable off.  All the talking has been done on the field and there is nothing else to write.  The action on the field and the final score says it all!  Keep it up, Four Lions.

Four Lions manager survives the chop....for now!

The Four Lions performed just enough to gain reprive for it's manager.  The manager who was under intense pressure after two successive defeats, was a releived man yesterday, after Four Lions drew 1-1 with favourites K.Knights.  But according to him  " My position is not at all safe.  The next match could spell the end for me unless the the boys can performe like what they did today.  Football is like that, and I have to accecpt it.  I believe this team has got a lot of potential and will go a long way.  They just need some time to get used to this rigirous league."

Yesterday's game saw Four Lions taking the game to their opponents.  They scored first through Shan and maintained the lead admirably.  The defence was superbly marshalled by Vicki.  Even with 2 new players, Nick (last man) and Alan (right back), they looked like they were playing together for a long time.  Of course strong man Aziz did superbly as well.

In the second half the Lions played well and pulled together some neat passes, to display some very attractive soccer.  Unfortunately, the slippery ball on the muddy pitch caused Eu Gin to drop the ball, and eventually give away a penalty in desperation, which resulted in the Knights goal.

For now at least, the manager can enjoy the fact that his team can rise to the occassion.....and he can be happy that for at least another week he has a job!!

Four Lions tamed by school boys!
With a chair in one hand and a whip in the other, 11 school kids took the Lions by their collar and humbled them.

Lions lost to the Hilton boys 3-4.  All credit to the Hilton boys.  They were in the game throughout and matched the lions in every department.  Even physically, the Hilton boys, average age about 16 (maybe 15), stood strong against the Lions.

In fact I predicted a 5-1 or a 6-2 victory for the Lions.  The boys effectively shut me up for my cockiness.

One lesson I learned from this match is that that talk is cheap.  What happens in the field and how the final score reflects is all that matters in football.  Whatever game it is, friendly or not, it really sucks to loose.

No excuse for this loss.  The better team on that day won the match.

Congratulations Hilton!  Till we meet again.

General Tips

Soccer Helpful Hints (Game Time), Soccer Coach Glenn Cameron

1. Don't dribble when you can make a constructive pass or cross.

2. Move to the open spot (space) move away from your defender (opponent), you are then in a better position to receive the ball.

3. As a defender, when you are under extreme presuer (pressed), kick the ball down field or over the touch line.

4. When the ball is lost from (out of) view, all forwards must (should) think defensively.

5. Make constructive passes across the field and behind as well as in front.

6. Defenders can back pass to the goalkeeper as a safety maneuver. Pass to the outside of the goal mouth.

7. Make the easy plays. Allow the ball to work for you. Don't you work for the ball.

8. Wing forwards should stay wide and close to the touch line. This brings the defender out from the middle of the field and allows more open space for your attack.

9. Don't be afraid to talk to your teammates on the field. Let them know what is happening in the area around them which their field of vision cannot pick up.

10. As a defender faced with two or more opponents (attackers), retreat slowly (stopping or slowing down the attacker) giving more time for teammates to come back to help.

11. Forwards should switch positions at various times during the game with other members of the forward line. example, center forward with winger. This sometimes confuses the defense.

12. Never retreat with your back to the ball. Watch the ball at all times.

13. As a defender, stay between ball and goal.

14. The closer the play develops toward your own goal, the tighter the defense must (should) be.

15. As a defender challenge only when you have a good chance to obtain (getting possession of) the ball.

16. Defenders should have restraint and control. Let your opponent commit himself first.

17. Delaying principles are good tactics in defense. This means slowing down the opponent's forward line.

18. Back up teammates and help cover the space behind fellow players.

19. Always move toward the pass, don't wait for the pass to come to you.

20. A most important thing to learn is quickness off the mark. The first three or four steps are all important in soccer. Beat your opponent to the ball.

21. What you do without the ball is as important as what you do with the ball.

22. A well placed shot is more effective than a hard shot at the goal.

23. An effective player is always in good physical shape.

24. Play the ball, not the man. (You can not play the man and the ball at the some time).

25. Respect the referee's decision.
